Text Classification

Text classification is also known as document classification or text categorization and it makes annotators read short lines or a body of text. Annotators need to do an analysis of the content, classify the subject, sentiment and intent within it and distinguish it based on a prearranged list of groups. Entity annotation involves the labelling of phrases and words and text classification is annotating an entire line or body of text using a single label. Some of the associated types of text annotation are as follows:

  • Document Classification: Here the classification or categorization of documents comes in handy to sort and recall content that is text-based.
  • Product Classification: Product categorization is vital for e-commerce sites as it helps in sorting services or products into intuitive sessions and classifying them to enhance user experience. The annotators are given product images, product descriptions or sometimes both. The job of annotators here is to select from a group of categories or departments that the client has offered.

Text classification is a wide category and hence many annotation types such as sentiment annotation or product classification are specialized groups of text classification.
